Setting up your own home gym means more than just spending a bit of cash on equipment to help you lift, run, cycle, stretch and get fit in various other ways. However, you will need to take into account certain constraints and find equipment to deal with these.
The biggest restriction is that in your home, space will be much more limited than at an outside gym. Of course, you won’t have dozens of people working out at once, or need changing rooms. But you may find that fitting several items into a single room is a bit of a squeeze.
Equipment For Everyone
This is where flexible equipment comes in, enabling you to do more things with one item as well as fitting it into relatively small spaces. That is where an adjustable foldable workout bench can come in handy.
It is not just that these are themselves foldable and flexible to take up less space when not in use. They lend themselves to a wide range of different activities, which means they can be used by multiple people in the household.
Whether younger or older, male or female, fit and looking to tone up more, or out of shape but keen to tackle that, this bench has benefits for everyone.
For instance, they can be used for bench presses. If you are a beginner, this is one of the best ways you can get yourself in better shape and tone up your muscles, especially in the chest, arms and shoulders.
As Healthline notes, there are different kinds of bench press. For instance, a narrower grip does more to work and strengthen the triceps and forearms.
However, just as you can adjust grips and stances, the flexibility to place the workbench in different alignments can help you undertake more exercises.
Seated shoulder presses are another example, with the bench being set in a position that enables you to sit upright with the backrest raised and then use dumbbells of whatever weight is appropriate for your strength to work those upper arms and shoulders.
More Bench Exercises
These are just a couple of the many exercises you can do on a workbench. Indeed, there may be more than you imagine - and indeed more than even some fitness fanatics will undertake.
For example, you can do lots of things without weights, such as step-ups. These simply involve placing the bench in a space and stepping up onto the bench with one foot, then the other, alternating which foot then lands back on the floor. It’s very simple and can be done by setting the bench flat and placing it in a bit of space.
Bench dips are another, which involves sitting on the bench with your hands on either side of your legs, then stretching your legs out horizontally in front of you before using your hands to raise yourself up off the bench. Repeating this adds a lot of strength.
Other exercises are less familiar, such as Bulgarian split squats. You don’t need anything from Bulgaria to do this, just a bench that you stand with your back to, resting your right foot on it, before squatting until your left foot is at a right angle. You then push your left leg to the floor to stand up - and then swap legs and repeat the exercise.
Having achieved that (a case of Sofia, so good?), you can then vary it by holding each squat for between five and ten seconds before getting up, or adding in half-squats.
Exercises with dumbbells don’t just include shoulder flys, but bicep curls, arm rows and seated calf raises.
Foldable Flexibility
Some of these exercises will be much more suited to those with greater strength, fitness and flexibility than others, but anyone undertaking them will gradually improve their fitness. This provides another benefit of a flexible bench, as it means you can make adjustments to its settings as you get fitter, stronger, or enjoy more joint flexibility.
With this bench, flexibility has a double meaning. Your body may get more flexible, but so too will the way you can use your home gym. Thanks to this bench being foldable, you can not only use it in lots of different ways, but also put it away when you need the space for other gym activities or even to use the room for another purpose entirely.
Having a home gym does require some flexibility at times, but it also gives you some, as it is always open 24/7 and there is no membership fee. Having equipment like this to match should suit you perfectly.
